Kelly Kowal of “My Warriors Place” in Ruskin, and “SOUTHEASTERN GUIDE DOGS” ambassadors Bob Minthorn and Sue Croley and “Ruth” will be our guest presenters. Kelly will brief us on some recent major positive developments with My Warriors Place in its mission to help veterans.  Bob Minton and Sue Croley are longtime volunteers with Southeastern Guide Dogs who will talk about its training of guide dogs for veterans and also their experiences in raising 11 dogs for Southeastern. Their most recent dog “Jewel” just returned to Southeastern for the advanced training program.  We’ll also have a short brief on Honor Flights to Washington, D.C. This is sure to be a most interesting and moving meeting. Coffee, tea and munchies will be available before the meeting begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. VLMVC monthly membership meetings are open to all VL residents without any obligation.  You need not be a member or a veteran to attend our meetings or join. Our Club has 184 members of whom 47 are non-veterans but who wish to support active duty military personnel and veterans.

VLMVC MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY MONDAY MAY 27 @ 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. VL SOCIAL HALL – The Valencia Lakes Military Veterans Club will hold its Memorial Day ceremony in the VL Social Hall.  All VL residents and their guests are invited to attend.  Our Valencia Singers will perform songs appropriate to this memorial occasion and its true meaning. Our guest speaker is Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Linda J. Pugsley, US Air Force, retired, formerly a career U.S. Air Force nurse. She currently serves as a chaplain for the Southeastern Region Civil Air Patrol.  Chaplain Pugsley spent several years of service in Vietnam as an Air Evacuation Flight Nurse and later served with Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation Squadrons around the globe and ultimately with 72 AES at MacDill AFB, FL. She is a very dynamic sought-after interesting speaker. Col Pugsley also served as a chaplain for the Florida Army National Guard. She is also an active athlete, she completed three triathlons in 2004 and ran six marathons and numerous half marathons from 1997 to 2017.  She is also a frequent hike on the Appalachian Trail. In 1966 she obtained her nursing diploma from Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, Boston, MA; 1974 B.S. degree in Nursing , University of Delaware; 1977 Master of Arts in Counseling, Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ; 2010 Doctorate of Biblical Studies, Colorado Theological Seminary, Longmont, CO. Col Pugsley is Please join us this Memorial Day as we commemorate those who have given their lives in service to our country.MONDAY JUNE 3rd – VA DISABILITY COMPENSATION PRESENTATIONS – VL MILITARY VETS CLUB Monday, Jun 3, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM @ VL CLUBHOUSE SOCIAL HALL.  Our Monday, June 3 membership meeting will be devoted to presentations on VA Disability Compensation. It will focus on eligibility, how do you apply, what is service connection, medical nexus letters to establish service connection and presumptive service-connected conditions as well as Dependents Indemnity Compensation and VA burial benefits.  Our primary speaker is Colonel Jim Fletcher, U.S. Army, Retired; Jim Fletcher is the Senior Chapter Veterans Service Officer for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 110 in Sun City Center; and he is also a volunteer assistant to the Vietnam Veterans of America National Service Officer and Director at the VA Regional Office in Bay Pine, Florida.  Our speakers for this event are all highly experienced knowledgeable Veterans Service Officers (VSO’s) who have spent many years assisting veterans gain VA Disability Compensation for their service-connected conditions. Coffee, tea and munchies will be available before the meeting starts promptly at 11:00 a.m. Our entire meeting time will be devoted to presentations / talks by knowledgeable speakers on various aspects of VA Disability benefits and the VA Claims process.
